When I was a young man, I was horrified to learn that my great grandfather was using astrology for farming. He showed me that it does not predict the future. It shows patterns in nature, like meteorology, and to use it otherwise was an abuse. I think St. Thomas had the best view of it. Obviously, the wise men did not consult the devil. At every Christmas, my church contradicts St. Augustine as we sing, “those who worshipped the stars were taught by a star to adore Thee the Sun of Righteousness”. From a Divine Council theory point of view: the nations, according to Deuteronomy 4:19, were allotted the worship of the stars by God. This form of paganism was pastoral and temporary in the sense that it was to lead them to Christ. Unfortunately, it was abused in many ways, as it still is.
